Five engaging works by four American composers appear on disc for the first time on this album. All were introduced to New York City audiences through the exciting concert series sponsored by North/South Consonance.
Lyrical melodies and exciting rhythms coalesce in Hilary Tann’s romantic evocation of an old castle. Münir Beken skillfully combines his virtuosity on the Turkish Ud with western practices and instruments. Howard Quilling’s multi-layered exploration of memories along with my own Expressions probe deep emotions disguised by a tinge of nostalgia. The concluding work mirrors the struggles of our time while striving to reach a musical equilibrium between conflict and reconciliation.
Great care was taken to preserve the integrity of the concert hall ambiance when this album was recorded and mastered. Indeed, the listener will find that the natural resonance of the concert hall and the music’s wide dynamic range were captured successfully. Please use a moderate volume setting when playing this disc.
